Here’s how to jet-set like a luxury traveler even if you’re in economy.
When I think about luxury travel, my mind jumps to first-class seats, private villas, and hotels with butler service—but all of that really isn’t in my budget. So, I’m always on the search for ways that I can make my travel journeys feel more luxurious, whether it’s packing a silk eye mask or pre-picking the movie I’ll be watching on my flight.
Luxury travel is all about the moments that can transform a trip, says Max Rosenthal, a luxury travel agent at Fischer Travel, and investing in quality travel accessories is one accessible way to feel like a rich traveler. These quiet comforts can make it feel like you’re on a premium experience without actually paying for one.
So, we asked Rosenthal his opinion on what’s really worth buying if you want to travel luxuriously. From noise-cancelling headphones to cozy travel wraps, here are the seven travel essentials worth splurging on, according to a luxury travel agent.

From the roar of the engine to conversations from nearby neighbors, plane travel can often be noisy, even if you’re seated in first class. So, Rosenthal says that a good pair of noise-cancelling headphones is indispensable. Whether you’re working on the go or indulging in some in-flight entertainment, they can help you stay immersed in whatever is keeping you occupied—besides sleeping.
If you’re willing to splurge, Rosenthal recommends the Timekettle W4 Pro AI Interpreter Earbuds, which provide real-time translation in over 50 languages. “They can dramatically enhance ease of communication,” Rosenthal says. In addition to their noise-cancelling function, the headphones are equipped with special tech that filters out other voices to pick up only yours, making them a great option for taking calls on the go, even if the person on the other end speaks a different language. You can even use them to make reservations abroad with ease.

The key to feeling like a rich traveler is dressing like one, too, so that means looking your best as often as you can. Rosenthal recommends splurging on universal-voltage hair tools, so you’re never left without an option for a quick touch-up abroad. “Reliable, travel-friendly beauty tools are a small but impactful upgrade,” he says. He recommends hair tools from T3 Micro, like this multi-styler, which can handle the two most common voltage level ranges—110–120 volts and 220–240 volts.
Whether you need to refresh a blowout or prep a hairdo that features glamorous curls, the T3 Aire 360 Multi-Styler and Blowout System is equipped to do it all, thanks to its travel-friendly attachments that include ceramic curlers, an oval brush, and a hair dryer. It’s also 11 percent lighter than a previous version, so it won’t take up too much weight in your carry-on or checked luggage. It’s the perfect hair tool for travel if you want to stick to your hair routine abroad.

Rosenthal says that a great travel wrap is the ultimate in-flight upgrade. “Lightweight yet warm, it doubles as a blanket, scarf, or pillow, bringing comfort and polish to a trip.” He recommends a Loro Piana Cashmere Travel Wrap, but they’re rare to find and can cost well over $700.
On the other hand, this oversized cashmere wrap from J.Crew is hundreds of dollars less and can still function as a cozy essential for chilly flights and cool nights. Wear it on the plane to nap, or use it as a luxurious way to spruce up an outfit for nightly strolls and enjoying the ocean breeze while lounging on a yacht. This J.Crew wrap is made with 100 percent cashmere, so it’s incredibly soft, and you can even add a monogram, which can make it feel even more high-end.

“Seamless travel is a luxury in itself,” Rosenthal says, so you should invest in every tech accessory that can help you stay connected when you’re traveling abroad, whether you’re working or indulging in entertainment. This compact adapter from Satechi keeps all your devices connected in one place. It features several USB ports, 4K HDMI inputs, micro/SD card readers, and much more. This is especially useful if you’re spending time in a hotel with limited outlets.
Other tech accessories that can make travel even more seamless include a portable charger, so you never have to deal with a phone that’s run out of juice, and a Bluetooth wireless audio adapter so you can use your own noise-cancelling headphones to watch in-flight entertainment—no need for those uncomfortable wired airline headphones.

Luxury travel is all about small comforts, and they can make a big difference on long flights and throughout a trip, Rosenthal says. He likes these travel socks from John Smedley because they’re soft and breathable. But a small comfort may look different from traveler to traveler. Wearing a pair of socks you love is a great idea if you’re the type of person who likes to kick off their shoes on a flight (no judgment here). But there are so many other travel accessories that can make a flight feel more restful or indulgent, including a silk sleep mask, a comfortable neck pillow, or a phone stand. These accessories may be especially useful if you’re not flying in business class, since economy typically offers less space and fewer amenities.

“Quality rest is priceless when traveling,” Rosenthal says, so one of his splurges would be these Ozlo Sleepbuds. “These earbuds block out cabin noise and make it easier to sleep comfortably, so you arrive refreshed.” They pair with an app that allows you to listen to sleep sounds and block out unwanted noises, like chatter from nearby travelers. They also feature a built-in personal alarm, which is useful if you want to wake up mid-flight to get a little work done or have dinner. If you’re the type of person who loves falling asleep on your flight, you should definitely splurge on comfortable travel accessories, whether you purchase a set of essential oils to help you relax or a foot rest that can help you fall asleep even faster.

Rosenthal says great luggage sets the tone for your entire journey, and that’s why he’s a fan of the Rimowa Essential Cabin S suitcase. “Lightweight yet durable, the Rimowa Essential Cabin S glides effortlessly through airports while keeping essentials protected.” He likes that Rimowa’s products are practical, polished, and built to last, which makes them worth the splurge.
But if you’re not willing to spend nearly $1,000 on a Rimowa bag, there are so many options that are comparably durable for a little less. Aluminum luggage like this Away Carry-on is a great purchase if you’re looking for something that feels high-end and polished. But if your priority is durability, you can even go a few hundred dollars less with something like the T+L-trusted Samsonite Omni 2 Hardside 3-piece Set. It has a sleek and elevated design, but its ability to withstand drops and countless trips without damage is where it really shines.
